Procedure:


After studying the videos and preparing your clinical vignette, we move to your therapist-client role play practice sessions.


You receive two private 50 minute clinical practice sessions. Schedule your two private 50 minute clinical practice sessions at mutual convenience.


You will gain confidence and skill to implement interventions with actual clients, or keep practicing until you feel ready.


Introducing Yourself

Covers: How to get started both linguistically and culturally with your Spanish speaking client. This video covers the following concepts: saying hello, welcoming the client, terapeuta o terapista, therapist vocabulary, cultural issue Personalismo.


Examples of introductions for psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, mental health professionals. Beginners can benefit from learning basic vocabulary and hearing pronunciation. Advanced speakers make sure you're using correct terms, conjugations, vocabulary and cultural assumptions. Prepare for common scenarios so you have the right sentence on the tip of your tongue.



Repeat & Clarify

Be prepared with the correct tenses and phrases for occasions when you don't understand exactly what your client just said. Learn how to extricate yourself professionally from this common situation while developing rapport and providing meaningful clinical interventions.

In this video you will practice vocabulary, pronunciation, phrases and client responses for gathering assessment information which is numerical. For example:


¿Cuál es su fecha de nacimiento? (When is your birthdate?) 

¿Cuándo se casó? (When did you get married?) 

¿Cuándo nació su primer hijo? (When was your first child born?) 

¿Cuándo murió su papá? (When did your father pass away?)


Then, of course, we have to understand the client's responses, such as: Nací en mil novecientos setenta. (I was born in 1970.) We practice asking and answering these and other types of questions that have numerical elements.
