JOB DESCRIPTION
Clinican I
REPORTS TO: The position of Clinician I at SAGE Counseling operates under the supervision of a Clinical Manager or Director unless otherwise specified.
SUPERVISES: No one.
JOB SUMMARY:
Clinician I employees are unlicensed Master’s or Bachelor’s level clinical staff with the appropriate level of experience and training that provide the services listed below for various referral issues, various treatment plans and a variety of settings, such as out-patient office sites, in-home, or incarceration facilities. Clinician I employees may provide individual, group, couples, or family psychotherapy or other clinical support services as directed and described in the responsibilities and duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
A Clinician I employees may provide any of the following tasks at SAGE:
1. Conduct various client screenings, evaluations, and assessment services as directed,
2. Follow the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics or the ethical code of his or her professional specialization
3. Write client Treatment Plans, and conduct periodic Treatment Plan reviews,
4. Conduct individual, group, couples, or family psychotherapy, or other necessary clinical services or case management services as outlined in program requirements,
5. Assess and document clients’ progress in treatment,
6. Conduct discharge planning and provide referrals as necessary and appropriate to clients for additional services,
7. Administer certain assessment tools or pre- and post-tests. These may include the SASSI, ASUS, MAST, and others,
8. Facilitate various psychotherapy groups, including substance abuse, domestic violence offender treatment, anger management, Cognitive Restructuring, parenting or others,
9. Assess clients or potential clients regarding their need for services and provide appropriate referrals,
10. Conduct risk assesmsent of clients identified to be a potential a danger to self or others and be able to conduct safety planning and access crisis intervention services, as necessary.
11. Maintain accurate documentation regarding clinical work with clients, including but not limited to: screening and assessment forms, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge forms, Monthly Progress Reports, Notice of Client Non-Compliance, DUI screening forms, and Authorizations to Release Information forms,
12. Submit all required paperwork in a timely manner and within the timeframes outlined in agency policies,
13. Maintain required licensure and training certifications as required for the position,
14. Comply with supervision requirements as outlined by agency policy
15. Respond to telephone calls and document requests in a timely manner and within the timeframes outlined in the agency policies,
16. Schedule appointments with one’s clients,
17. Provide information regarding client’s treatment to other parties, per SAGE Policy, when authorized by the client to do so with an Authorization to Release Information Form and as required by program requirements or request of management,
18. Collect fees from clients, complete related documentation, and transfer receipts and paperwork to the main office within the policy requirements,
19. Must be available to be on call for substitution needs for one month a year and one day a week of that month.)
20. Follow the agency Policies & Procedures, as well as policies and procedures required by agency contracts.
21. Complete other tasks as assigned.
Job Description – Clinician I
Clinician I employees must always act in a professional manner, be sensitive to cultural differences and diversity, and follow the Ethical Code according to SAGE Policy and Procedures and the ACA Code of Ethics or the Ethical Code of his or her professional practice. Clinicain I employees will recognize the limits of their own professional expertise and seek supervision and/or refer clients to another professional as needed. They will make clinical and organizational decisions with the clients’ well-being and best interest in mind.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
SAGE Clinician I employees must meet or exceed the qualifications for a “Behavioral Health Technician,” as described in the Arizona Administrative Code. They must also have a Bachelor’s degree in a social service field and at least one year’s related work experience. Domestic Violence counselors have additional training requirements according to OBHL regulations. A Masters Degree in a Behavioral Health discipline is required for several SAGE contracts.

- Completing and submitting progress notes in the timeframe required by SAGE policy and procedure.
- Completing Treatment Plan Reviews;
- Completing Discharge Reports in the timeframe required by SAGE policy and procedure;
- Collecting client payments and returning said payments with the correct forms to the main office within 24 business hours (as applicable);
- Completing Monthly Reports and emailing back to [email protected] by the 9th of every month or to the appropriate program contact as noted within my program(s) and within the timeframe specified;
- Following relevant agency policies and procedures regarding your employment position, e.g. starting and ending sessions on time, not letting clients attend group sessions when they’re more than 2 session payments behind, completing and submitting paperwork on time, etc.;
- Maintaining current CPR/First Aid certification, any required professional licenses, attending scheduled staff meetings, and complying with requirements to meet monthly supervision hours and annual training requirements.
